A San Antonio truck accident attorney discusses dangers drivers face on the road
SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 28, 2018) – A Wilson County truck accident that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old driver struck and killed in a left-turn intersection accident in Floresville, Texas, illustrates the dangers of intersections for all drivers, said San Antonio truck accident attorney Jorge Herrera of The Herrera Law Firm.

The fatal tractor-trailer accident occurred at around 1 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the intersection of US Route 181 and Farm-to-Market 775 in Floresville, Texas, according to News 4 San Antonio. The accident occurred when the driver of the smaller vehicle traveling south on US Route 181 tried to turn left onto Farm-to-Market 775. A tractor-trailer heading north on US Route 181 then struck the smaller vehicle and pushed the vehicle at least 600 feet from the crash site, according to KSAT 12 News. The driver of the smaller vehicle was later pronounced dead at Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville.
The driver killed in the crash was Marikate Georgann Maggio, 18, of Floresville, according to mysanantonio.com. Maggio was a college freshman at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, the news website reported. The accident remains under investigation.
Fatal intersection accidents are especially common in Texas. In 2017, more than 20 percent of all traffic fatalities statewide occurred at intersections, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Specifically, 761 people were killed in intersection accidents in Texas in 2017. Overall, there were 3,721 traffic fatalities in Texas in 2017.
