History of the Herrera Law Firm
Beginning
Frank Herrera Jr. born and raised in Edna, Texas by his father, Frank Sr., a mechanic and activist, and his mother, Elvira, a migrant farm worker.
Inspired
Frank Herrera Jr. decides to become a lawyer as a child after watching court proceedings featuring attorney Gus Garcia, the first Mexican-American lawyer to argue a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
1964
Frank Herrera Jr. earns a bachelor’s degree in political science and English from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, where he attended college on a scholarship.
1967
Frank Herrera Jr. earns his juris doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law. That same year, he is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
1969
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. opens his first law firm with the assistance of his parents, who refinance their home to help buy office equipment and furniture.
1975
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. receives Texas Board of Legal Specialization certification in Labor and Employment Law.
1979
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. receives Texas Board of Legal Specialization certification in Civil Trial Law and Personal Injury Trial Law.
1983
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. founds the Herrera Law Firm – then known as the Law Offices of Frank Herrera, Jr. – and becomes its sole owner.
1986
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. appointed to the Board of Directors for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
1990
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. named Hispanic Business Magazine’s 100 Most Influential Leaders.
1991
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. honored by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
1992
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. named Hispanic Business Magazine’s 100 Most Influential Leaders.

Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. receives La Prensa’s 4th Annual Hispanic Heritage Award for the Legal Profession.
2005
Jorge A. Herrera licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. named Grand Marshall for 9th Annual Cesar Chavez Foundation Parade.
2010
Javier L. Herrera licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. receives the Pat Maloney Award.
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. receives the prestigious OHTLI Award from the Mexican Government.
2012
Attorney Jorge Herrera reaches a multimillion-dollar settlement in a wrongful death case for the family of Guadalupe Quintanilla, who died in a truck crash two years prior. In an audio deposition declassified by the courts for the benefit of the public, Attorney Herrera’s questioning leads the owner of the trucking company to admit that his company had not trained its drivers on trucking regulations.
The Herrera Law Firm receives the 2012 Family Excellence Award from the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
2013
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. elected chair of the Board of Directors for New American Alliance, Inc., an organization committed to advancing the American Latino community.
2015
Attorney Javier Herrera elected president of Mexican American Bar Association (MABA), San Antonio chapter.
2016
Attorney Laura G. Tamez receives the Pat Maloney Sr. Courage Award from the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association.
Attorney Jorge Herrera named one of San Antonio’s 40 Under 40 by the San Antonio Business Journal, which honors 40 young professionals.
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. receives the 2016 Peter Torres, Jr. Community Service Award from the Hispanic Issues Section of the State Bar of Texas.
Attorney Frank Herrera Jr. named one of the 25 Most Influential Hispanic Lawyers in the United States by Latino Leaders Magazine.
2017
Law firm relocates their main office to the West Side of San Antonio. Move to a historic building at 1800 W. Commerce St. represents a commitment to the community in this up-and-coming neighborhood.
Today
The Herrera Law Firm continues to vigorously fight for the rights of hard-working people in San Antonio and throughout Texas.
